Scott Ferguson

Scott Ferguson obtained his Concealed Handgun License in 1995, the same year the program started. He has carried almost every day since that time and encourages others to do the same. He became a CHL Instructor because he wanted to make a difference. He continues to train and stay up to date with new laws, working with law enforcement and attorneys so he can continue to make a difference.

Scott Ferguson instructs our Concealed Handgun classes here at HW Training Center. He obtained his Concealed Handgun License in 1995, the same year the program started. He tells us he has carried his firearm almost every day since that time and encouraged others to do the same.

Scott shares with us his story of how he got started handling firearms and what led him to becoming an instructor with HW:

“ From childhood, I have always been around guns and hunting. My Marine dad taught me how to shoot and more importantly how to be safe when handling a gun. The more I got involved with concealed carry and handguns in general, I became more aware of the need for training.

My brother and I with our wives made a trip to Pahrump, Nevada to a 500 acre Firearm Training Facility called Front Sight. We all took a 4 day tactical handgun course. I figured I would be one of the top shooters in the class of over 400 students prior to start of our class, but early in the first day of training, I just hoped I would pass the course. My eyes were opened immediately on how much I did not know. We all became lifetime members of Front Sight and try to go out every year for additional training. The second year, my brother and I completed the course as Distinguished Graduates, the only two out of a class of over 400. My brother had a perfect score and I had one bullet that kept me from a perfect score. The only way we were able to accomplish this goal was continued training and practice.

I became a Concealed Handgun License instructor because I wanted to make a difference. I had been through renewal classes by various instructors who just wanted to finish the day. I wanted to be taught and learn and feel as though the instructor cared about ME. I found what I was looking for in Cheryl Lamar at HW Training Center. We became friends and I started working with her over 9 years ago. Every student she had in class knew without a doubt that she knew what she was talking about. Every student left her class with more knowledge and caring than any other instructor I have ever seen. We lost a tremendous instructor when she passed and I miss her dearly. I give my best to continue with her philosophy in educating and caring about every student who comes to my classes.

I continue to train and stay up to date with new laws, working with law enforcement and attorneys so I can make a difference. My only hope is for every student to leave better equipped with the knowledge of the program and truly understand the need for training, and what to expect in the Aftermath of having to use Deadly Force.

You will NOT ‘rise to the occasion.” You will DEFAULT to your level of training when it hits the fan! Therefore, training is an absolute!”
